Pacific Valve Audio gd Compass
Product Details
Well built, compact and heavy – the Audio gd Compass is a headphone amp, preamp and DAC
designed to be the very best at its price point. The Compass accepts Coax, Optical and USB input
and had Headphone (front panel), converted DAC output and line out. A switch on the back allows
the compass to act as a DAC/preamp or a straight DAC for input to a preamp of your choice.
Compass separates circuit topology for each stage of DAC and Headphone output. The DAC circuit
uses separate power supplies and discrete transistor circuit. So does the headphone output, where
separate transformers and discrete transistors feed the circuit.
Flexibility abounds in the Audio gd Compass, where you can select a “Pure DAC” mode – where the
preamplifier is out of the circuit or a “Preamp Mode” where you can enjoy the convenience of a volume
control. In addition to this, a jumper scheme allows the tailoring of the sound from Bright, Neutral,
Soft and Soft II mode. The Pacific Valve Compass DAC ships in Neutral mode.
Overall, this is a solid great performer with audiophile grade Nover Caps, I2S USB coupling, and a
superb quite class “A” amplifier. Note: Pacific Valve will only service Compass DACs purchased
directly through our web site.
