Vic's Bio

The Salad Days

The "Sound of His Master's Voice" was the tag line of the early "Victor Talking
Machines Company" where my mentor, Eldridge R. Johnson, named a
phonograph after me. Soon thereafter, the Victor Talking Machine company
decided to dress me up as a fox terrier and place me on a record label. After the
crash of 1929, one thing led to another and we were sold to RCA.  While at RCA
my position was eliminated as part of corporate "right-sizing".

Early Audio

I managed to get through high school with a Dual 1229 turntable, a Realistic
Receiver and some Fisher speakers.  I am a big fan of Henry Kloss and comment
on his works whenever I get a chance.   This following led me to a purchase of
stacked Advents, a Phase Linear 400, AR turntable, Advent tape deck, Stanton /
Shure / XLM cartridges and a Macintosh C-26 preamp.  I was in heaven until...

My last year in high school, right before college where I hear something that
changed my life forever.  A pair of flat speakers and some electronics form a
company in Minneapolis called "Audio Research".  The Sp-3, Ampzilla, Linn /
Decca/ Dennon Maggie combo was mine and it was so good, that it lasted me
through my early 20s.

Vic Today

In case you missed my blogs, things here at hi fi land have gotten way out of hand.
Very few people can afford the type of equipment I had in my early days. Its more
than inflation, its price gouging.  I feel that I can keep the love of music and that
feeling of hearing great sound in your living room alive. But, I would not want you to
mistake me as altruistic; from a business perspective, there is a gap to fill and
where there is a gap there is money to be made.  I hope to accomplish two things:
keep the hobby going where equipment purchases are still reasonable and keep
Pacific Valve going so I can service and help those customers that have bought
from us.  So far, its been 5 years and we just keep growing and going.

Thank you for visiting my site.  And, if there is anything I can do for you, please just
let me know.

All the best,
Vic
