Is the two tube one better than the one tube one? Its got two tubes in it - its got to be better, right?
Not so fast kid-O.
The two tube buffer uses an obscure 6J1 tube. While this has NOS derivatives, the 6J1 is still not as well known as the 6922/6DJ8 tube that the one tube version uses. The one tube version casts a very musical sound stage. The two tube version was very bright and made the high end hard. Not to our liking.
The one tube version gently pushes the sound through the speakers in a way that makes music. It can smooth out just about any harsh CD player and add a tube quality without the expense of equipment replacement.

Experiment with various 6DJ8s / 6922s to get the sound you like. We tried Amperex, Siemens etc and achieved surprising results.
From our stock, the Phillips 6922 is the most subtle as it gently softens the sound. The JJ Tesla is slightly more musical and this tube, we surmise, gives you the most bang for your buck. Most folks order the two tubes and experiment that way.
